Mood Board

The image shown below is an overview of the influential material I want to include in making my teaser trailer. In each section of the mood board there are individual aspects of which I will withdraw details to completely fulfil the effect I want my project to convey.

On the top left of the mood board, a variety of pictures are collectively representing "Life in the Bi-lane". My story initially was influenced by the idea that differences in sexual orientation was abused and bullied, so, similar to other inspirational programmes or films, e.g. E4's successful series "Skins" portraying different sexualities with the lesbian couple Emily and Naomi. This also links in with my idea of a love traingle and the confusion people may go through, this kind of idea will have the appeal to young teenagers going through the same difficulty.

On the bottom left, there a large amount of different stimuli that I collected to which influenced several idea for my film and different aspects that I want to include in my trailer as mise-en-scene and props as well as stimuli to build the script and direction of my trailer. Such things include drugs, police and rebelling teenagers, intimacy between partners, parties and trouble.

On the top right are a cluster of different posters to help with the imagery I want to include in my project, for the trailer itself, the poster I will be making or the magazine cover I will also have to produce. These posters also include films that have influenced the ideas for my film.

On the bottom right are a collection of photographs I have taken myself of different locations and scenary that can influence the material for my project. The different colours seen in these images can be used symbolically and the destinations can also be used as influence in the story of my film.

Influential Trailer

Scary Movie 1 and Shaun of the Dead

The titles used in this trailer are placed over the scenes whilst still in motion, this has influenced me and is very interesting, however as I have shown below when annotating the still images from Shaun of the Dead, it is used in that trailer on a black background edited between the clips. Depending on the amount of clips I have will determine whether I place them over the images or whether I place them on a black background between clips. I am interested in the phrases that each of the movies use throughout their trailer. As my film trailer is focussing on three genres, rom-com, horror and comedy, I won't have a similar font to the text used in Scary Movie, but the font used in Shaun of the Dead interests me, as it is similar to the font I used in my pitch clip.

The presentation of the titles clearly represent the the genre of the film, this has influenced me to take a similar route in how to present the title for my film. The effect used to introduce the titles in each of the films are effective to engage the audience. Scary movie has a wave/ rippling effect getting larger as it zooms closer to a still font to clearly read Scary Movie. Shaun of the Dead give each word its own entrance, flying in from the centre of the camera, similar to the fly in effect I used in my pitch movie, as well as including a slight animation of the hand coming up and completing the 'A', this also related to the genre of the film in an original way.

Another reason Scary Movie appeals to me is due to the casting decisions, the young teenage characters relate to the characters that are going to be in my film. As well as the drug use in the film, the story lines are slightly similar including drugs, deaths and humour to resolve it.

Music, Soundtrack Ideas. Boh.

The following youtube clips represent the kind of music I am interested in using for my trailer. The main inspiration for my music choice is a youtube artist called Skrillex, who perfects the sound of dubstep and is idolised by many teenaged fans, his sound is unique and he edits popular material to increase his success. For example thissoundtrack inspired by the very popular film Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen.

The first of the two involves a young artist putting some vocals over Skrillex's musical talents. This is what I am aiming to do with an unknown artist named Danny Craft of the unknown group "The Manor", a group of older teen male rappers (aged 20-22) who are very skilled at freestyle as well as creating lyrical pieces to a certain motif. The group of boys have local fans suitable for my trailers target audience, and with a strong powerful and engaging beat similar to those of Skrillex, the music will project an attractive element for my trailer, making it more appealing to my teenage audience.

First of the Year (Equinox) - Skrillex, caught my attention because it explored a variety of different tones of music, it differentiates between a slow paced instrumental to an upbeat and very unique styled piece. The idea that, in this video, the only dialogue used is "call 9-1-1 now" gave me an idea to combine both of the video ideas, having a young unsigned artists' vocals over the soundtrack, and also contain a musical-drop into a catchphrase similar to this, could help to portray my different genre ideas. The slow element of skrillex's work could influence the music used when I want to persue the more romantic side to my storyline between the two main characters. The faster paced material of his work could then be used for the reveal of the love triangle, the drug abuse and then the cheating part of my trailer, then leading to a slow intimate build up to the phrase and the dub-drop which would signify a change in the storyline, to when the horror genre will become apparent.

Synopsis.Mao.

Main character
- Jessie played by Melina John

Main boy
- Dominic played by Simon Murphy
(Main) Girl
- Robyn played by Chloe Byerley

Jessica Scott (John) and her boyfriend Dominic (Murphy) have been together for several years and are living together. They're group of friends are very close and vary between all aspects of the social diversities in both appearance and behaviour, but they all have one thing in common...they like to get wasted. Jessica's up for having fun and her boyfriend can't keep up, Jessie doesn't repay the consistency to Dom in their on off relationship, effecting the understanding and supportiveness of her boyfriend and things really take a turn after she makes out with their friend Robyn (Byerley). Dominic's plan to get back at Jessica back fires and results in him, and whoever else that gets in her way, having the wildest trip of their lives. I don't think her obsession with the popular artist Jessie J particularly helps either, when she believes in becoming Jessie J when experiencing trips, Jessica Scott doesn't like when she's told otherwise. This unleashes the main characters unconscious mental state, leading to chases, disappearances and ...harsh come-downs?

Shaun of the Dead Synopsis (inspiration)

And, oh yeah, London is overrun with multitudes of zombies. In the midst of this, he must save himself, Ed, his ex, his mom, and his precious record collection. There is a time when a hero must rise...from his couch. Written by Matt Plenert

What is a Teaser Trailer?

A teaser trailer is a variation on a film trailer used to advertise an upcoming film, video game or television program. This form of trailer is named 'teaser' as they are usually of very short length, ranging from 30 seconds to 1 minute 30 seconds.

- The Twilight Saga; Breaking Dawn is an example of extreme length. Due to the books and the films worldwide popularity, this trailer over exaggerates the term 'teaser', pushed the boundaries of time and released a 16 second clip to their audience. This short amount of time is not a threat to the films promotion as it includes known characters and focuses on one specific aspect of the Saga.

Teaser trailers commonly show very little actual footage from the film. Such companies like Pixar Animation tend to release teaser trailers made up of scenes created just for advertisement purposes. This technique is regular and is used to portray the upcoming films genre, certificate etc. Trailers like this are also likely to have the characters directly address the camera, interacting with the audience, e.g. possibly asking them a question, the process of breaking down the fourth wall and enticing the audience further.

- Arthur Christmas is a popular type of teaser, introducing the main character, an idea of what the film storyline may be about but not focusing on giving away the plot, this advert includes humour and is a 'mini feel good' film in itself.

- "Green With Envy" - The Muppet's Movie is another example of a trailer that uses direct address towards the camera engaging the audience, however is an example of a teaser that disguises the actual product as another film. The beginning of this trailer advertises a different story, then coming to the conclusion that it is a Muppet's film, then leaving the audience unaware of the story, although it includes some actual footage and some context, and wanting to see more, another technique of teasing your audience.
Whilst the film is in the production stage or being edited, the teaser trailers are often made and released containing footage from the film. However, doing this, producers find a way to disguise the context of the film and hide the story, thus upholding the term 'teaser'.

- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo shows this technique. It includes a large amount of footage from the upcoming movie however due to random placement and repetition of clips and images the teaser trailer is out of context. This is not a risk for the film as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a worldwide best seller, as is also mentioned in the following trailer. No speech or narrative is used in this teaser trailer either, just a soundtrack to which the clips and images are cut to a beat, editing of the visual text and sound is used to enlighten the audience of the genre.

Discarding the idea of repetition and random placement of footage; like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or disguising your product for another film before introducing it mid-trailer; like The Muppet's, or creating a whole knew length of footage to create an advertisement; similar to Sony Pictures Animation's Arthur Christmas, another form of teaser trailer has recently been introduced to the industry.

Using no footage and no context of the film, not including any of the films characters. Instead the teaser trailer contains the audience's reactions to watching the previews themselves and having the sound of the movie edited in so that the audience of the teaser trailer can experience a slight indication of what the film may include.

- The Human Centipede II teaser trailer consists of no actual footage, the audience's reactions are filmed and condenseed to form the trailer, quotes edited into the trailer reflect the films 'deprived' nature, lasting just over 1 minute, The Human Centipede II states "Has horror gone too far" as well as mentioning its release has been banned from Britain, scenes have been cut in the USA and the only place in the world to allow its full sequence to be "unleashed" is in Australia.
